1997 Guestbook

"Caleb, you look just like the Lab puppy that we just donated to our local Ducks Unltd. tonight for auction. I wish I had him back even though I don't need another Lab (4 already)." - M.H. (12-31-97)
"What I like best...) Your wonderful stories Walt. I didn't realize we were such close neighbors. The Last Refuge is in Hebron CT. Chipper says 'hi' to Caleb and Bailey says to say he and Caleb have pedigrees in common. My two are butt tucking and playing head soccer with a ball all over the back yard through the snow right now. At least they're not stealing carrots from the horses!" - C & C (12-29-97)
"(What I like best...) The stories and poems of course, but that Caleb... what can I say? I am a sucker for a pretty yellow face! Come visit my Labs at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8310/." - P.L. (12-26-97)
"It's Christmas Eve and I'm at work thinking about my Lab who I'm sure is at home misbehaving. Thanks for the smiles... I'll be back." - M.G. (12-24-97)

"(What I like best...) The pictures... dogs, dogs, and more dogs. I am so happy to have found your little corner of the net. I haven't read all of your stories yet, because Cosmos pleaded with me to see the snapshots first. As usual he got his way. I am owned by a wonderful 2 year old chocolate. He has had quite a rough time in those 2 years, parvo, bilateral HD, a fractured tail, and endless allergies. He is the love of my life, so despite his numerous ailments he is my perfect lab. Cosmos and I really enjoyed your site, keep our tails wagging!" - D & C (9-1-97)

"Hello Caleb! My name is Pixelle and I'm a miniature American Eskimo. Well, I'm not born *yet* but I'm due in June. I'd like to have dog friends across the cyberspace, so if you want, you can email me and my future owners will be glad to answer your letter. I don't have pictures of me, but I do have a picture of my mummy (http://www.webnet.qc.ca/chiens/esk/esk2.jpg). Well... woof woof (good bye)!" - MC & PD (5-11-97)

Caleb says: "Thanks for dropping by. Love cyber-friends too. I have a buddy whose an Eskie. What a ball of fire! I think his real name is 'NO NO BAD BOY!!' At least that's what his Mom calls him. Good luck with that 'being born' thing."

"The stories are timeless and identify the common bond we all share - the love for a pet. Ahh, the pick of the litter - I'll share the highlights of my story with you now. While growing up I always had a friend in the house. However, in 1994 I had been without a dog for a few years and decided I had to fill the void in my life. I patiently read about different breeds, sought advice from my vet, read about how to buy a dog, etc. When the time came to meet with breeders all of my dedication to doing it by the book went out the window! I too fell for that puppy who came to me out of the pack - I was the chosen one (and I wouldn't change this for the world). However, I had a bad feeling about the breeder - something way down inside felt wrong and as the weeks passed and the time grew nearer to picking up my girl the suspection grew stronger. But, the joy of being a new mom was much stronger than the feeling that something was wrong - during those weeks, I stared at the photograph I had daily - the bond we created during our meeting grew stronger. My girl has turned out to be the best friend I could have ever asked for, but she has had to endure so much pain because of the poor practices her breeder thought was acceptable. She came home with kennel cough and at 9 months was diagnosed with severe bi-lateral HD. (But that has not changed the warm kind-hearted nature that is within her) Anyway, last year the breeder was charged and is serving time for numerous counts of animal cruelty and fraud. They claim that his household will be petless for several years, but I wonder who will make sure of this. When I think about what Lady could have went through had I not taken her home I feel sick inside - so maybe sometimes it's best for us to be the chosen ones. Lady is the source of my daily inspiration - those eyes, oh those eyes..." - J & LM (5-11-97)
"Loved your page - gave me warm fuzzy feelings and made me cry!" - T.A. (5-6-97)
"(What I like best...) The genuine warmth I feel reading what we Labbers know inside. How deeply attached we are to our beloved Labs. Your sincerity is so apparent and you have great touches of humor and lightheartedness... Hi Walt and Caleb! Love your page! Mason & I are two of your many fans of course! Always enjoy your posts... Caleb sure is great-lookin'! I hope to get a page at some point, maybe I will hit you for some pointers - if that's ok. I've got photos scanned now that I will share with the list soon. Take Care. Mason says: 'I think Caleb could be my pal!'" - D.M. & M (5-5-97)
"Very funny site, Walt! Good work!" - J.T. (5-5-97)
"I absolutely LOVE the pictures (especially the Inspirational one!) of Caleb - now I can understand where all that heart-wrenching stuff comes from, Walt! I'll be back later to read the stories - don't want to spoil this sunny morning by crying my eyes out. Great job, Walt and Nate!! Keep giving us more of these delightful pictures and stories! We are owned by the most marvelous chocolate fellow named Tucker, and will be adding his son, who was born April 10, to our family soon. Can't wait to see what life with two labs will be like!" - C.E. (5-4-97)
"You've got me crying again Walt, due to The Private Lab! Thanks for all your great writing." - L.M. (5-3-97)
"A VERY nice Caleb's Corner, indeed! Congratulations! The Pick of the Litter story is to be printed in Labradoren, the Swedish LRC-magazine. I will send your dad a copy when the mag is out!" - A.H. (5-3-97)
"I found Caleb's Corner one afternoon after searching for info on retinal disorders in Labs. My precious three month old Black Lab, Annie has just been diagnosed with retinal dysplasia. I was very sad and anxious regarding her prognosis and I can't tell you how Caleb's Corner lifted my spirits. I'm taking Annie to a specialist next week and will see what happens. Whatever the case, Annie will be spayed as I don't want to pass on any retinal disorders, and together we will get through this, always keeping Annie's best interest. Caleb's Corner touches me in that special place I thought only my pup could. Continue writing. You have a beautiful gift that I hope you will continue to share with us Lab lovers. Thank You." - C.L. & ASB (5-2-97)
"What a lovely homepage. Are you sure you weren't a Labrador in another life Walt !!?????" - D.B. (5-1-97)

Walt replies: "Thank you for stopping by. Caleb is a handsome guy. I confess, I WAS a Lab, but I was too leggy for conformation and way too dumb for obed!! Thanks again."

"(What I like best...) So far the stories, although I'm sure the pictures will be great. I have a four month old chocolate named Molly and a friend who will be bringing an 8 week yellow named Jasmine (Jazz) in a couple of weeks. She recently lost an 8 year old German Shepherd so I have used lots of the funny and some of the sad things I've seen on the list and other sites to help her through the mourning process and to prepare happily for this new little one. I've added you to my list of favorite places. Keep up the GRAND work! Such a nice personal site! Makes me look forward to getting my own site up and running!" - R.E. (4-30-97)
"Walt, I love your stories... keep them coming! Can't wait to see your pictures!" - C.W. (4-30-97)
"We like all of the great stories and poems. We love to read about labradors. (What I'd like to see...) Pictures! We can't wait to see Caleb. Since we live very close to you we hope you can come over and play. Three yellow fellows could do some serious butt-tucking!" - O & J (4-30-97)
